Juels was born and raised on San Juan Island. She first learned to cook from her mother, who made everything from scratch and taught 4-H cooking classes out of their home kitchen. Her professional career began when she was a teenager, cooking under chef and artist Gretchen Allison, the former owner of Duck Soup Restaurant.
In 2000, Juels moved to the beautiful island of Kaua’i where she met her husband, Angus Killick, and started her first business, Garden Isle Chef Services. Her skills and passion for fresh foods gained Juels an impressive clientele. She was a private chef to many celebrities, including Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet, Sean and Paula Stussy, Will Smith, Michael Chrichton, and Tony Hawk. She was personal chef to Ben and Christine Stiller for five continuous years and still occasionally cooks for them when she returns to Kaua’i for visits.
After running Garden Isle Chef Services for ten years, Juels and her family moved home to San Juan Island. She took time off when her daughter was a baby, and in 2018, founded Salmonberry Catering. Her focus for Salmonberry is clean and beautiful food, using fresh, local ingredients, and supporting small farms and businesses. As an active member of her hometown community, she strives to make locally organized events affordable for everybody.
Juels is an artist who extends her creativity to every part of her life. When she’s not working, she loves to spend time with her daughter, and create fine art beaded jewelry, which she sells at boutiques and ateliers. She’s also an avid gardener and enjoys cooking at home for her friends and family.
